We believe every Black woman deserves to understand her body, trust her voice, and feel supported in caring for her health.

Our Mission

The Village Well exists because Black women deserve to feel seen, informed, hopeful, and supported throughout every stage of their health journey. We believe health information should be trustworthy, easy to understand, relevant to our lives, and useful in the real world.

Our hope is that The Village Well becomes a place you can return to again and again, to learn, ask questions, find support, and draw from the knowledge and community you need to care for yourself and your well-being.

What We Believe

Knowledge changes how we care for ourselves

Understanding our bodies helps us ask better questions and make informed decisions.

Our experiences matter

Black women's health deserves attention that recognizes the realities of our lives.

Wellness is more than healthcare

Our physical mental, emotional, social and spiritual well-being are connected.

We don't have to
navigate it alone

Information matters, but so does conversation, connection, resources, and community.

Why a Well?

Throughout history, a village well has been more than a source of water. It has been a place where people gather, share wisdom, strengthen relationships, and return again and again. The Village Well is rooted in that same idea.

We are not here to create strength, confidence, or resilience in Black women. Those things already exist within us. Like a well, our purpose is to provide access. Access to trustworthy information, practical resources, supportive community, and stories that remind us we are not alone.

Every article, conversation, event, and resource is another bucket lowered into the well.

You take what you need for where you are in your journey. And when you need something more, the well is here to return to.

Come to the Well!

The well does not create the water.  It reveals it.

A Note From Our Founder

Nella Kamarah, CHES, MHA, MHEP

My interest in women's health began long before The Village Well. As a little girl, I dreamed of becoming an obstetrician because I wanted to care for women and help bring new life into the world. My career ultimately took a different path, but that desire to help women understand and care for their health never left me.

Through my work in health education and public health, I became increasingly aware of the disparities Black women face and how often we navigate healthcare systems without feeling fully heard, understood, or supported. I also saw how much of a difference it can make when we have trustworthy information, know what questions to ask, and feel confident using our voices.

For years, I imagined creating something that brought together my background in storytelling and my passion for health education specifically for Black women. The Village Well grew from that vision.

My hope is that this becomes a place you return to throughout your health journey. A place to learn, ask questions, find useful resources, and know that there are people in your corner who genuinely want you to be well.

Black women deserve to understand our bodies, trust our voices, and

have the knowledge we need to make informed decisions about our health.

That's why I created The Village Well.

I'm so glad you're here. Welcome to the well!
